Cadillac Unveils a Beautiful Monster
During the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Cadillac officially unveiled the 2016 CTS-V — a car that’s both beauty and beast. This model comes out swinging with a supercharged 6.2L engine that makes an incredible 640 horsepower and 630 lbs-ft of torque straight out of the factory. To conserve fuel, it also gets direct injection and cylinder-deactivation technologies for 2016.
Does that sound familiar? Well if you’ve been following the 2015 Z06 craze, you know why — the CTS-V is now an engine brother to the Z06. It’s also more powerful than many supercars out there and to make it burn just a little worse, it’s still on the sedan platform it was born on.
Behind the powerful engine is an 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission that gets the power to the rear wheels. This transmission has a paddle-shift unit with launch control system and shift tuning made specific for the CTS-V.
With the capability to seat 5, the new CTS-V races to 60 miles per hour in only 3.7 seconds. It can also keep pace all the way to an astonishing 200 miles per hour.
Not too Bad to Look at Either
This stunning car is just as attractive as it is powerful. The performance-orientated design starts off with a sharp carbon fiber hood — and drivers can opt to add on from there. Available upgrades include a hood vent, front splitter and rear diffuser — all made from carbon fiber.
The car sits on massive 19” wheels, fitted with special Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Its lightweight wheels are made from forged aluminum and measure 9.5” wide in the front and 10” in the rear.
Inside, passengers are treated to a sporty-meets-luxurious interior. The interior is complete with suede microfiber accents and carbon fiber trim pieces — finished in a matte black. The front seats are made by Recaro and come with adjustable bolsters to keep occupants sitting in place during hard cornering. It also has a 20-way adjustable HVAC system because it is still a Cadillac!
It’s Also Very Track-Worthy
It’s no secret that the CTS-V is a very popular track car and Cadillac is making sure it stays that way. The design is track-honed with chassis and suspension components that allow you to best utilize all of that power. It's sporting beefy Brembo brakes, a Magnetic Ride Control suspension, 25% stiffer chassis, wider stance and track-tuned traction control and stability control systems.
Not that it’s limited to the track by any means. Cadillac knows you’ll probably spend most of your time (if you’re one of the lucky ones!) riding around on the road. That’s why they gave the new CTS-V a slew of advanced safety and parking technologies. Included is a front curb-view camera, automatic parking assist, side blind zone alerts, forward collision alerts, lane assist and cross traffic alerts. To wrap it up, the CTS-V comes with unique menus, GM’s popular Performance Data Recorder, the CUE infotainment system, and the standard features from the CTS.
