8 Things We're Excited About In 2017

Unfortunately, GM's best gifts to the public won't be arriving by Christmas. On the cusp of another new year, we'll have to wait until 2017 for what's in store. But if you ask us, it'll be well worth the wait. Here's everything we're excited about in 2017 (so far):

1. 2017 Cadillac DPi-V.R

Excited 2017 Caddy

The 2017 DPi-V.R marks Cadillac's first foray into prototype racing in 14 years.

This prototype race car will compete in the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Daytona Protoype International Series (yes, we know that's a mouthful). This marks Cadillac's first foray into prototype racing in 14 years, and there's plenty to be excited about. Developed for performance and tested in wind tunnels, the DPi-V.R is powered by an aspirated 6.2L V8 engine that pushes it to 600 hp. Though the season opener isn't until January 28th, we're excited for the results!

2. 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback

The Chevy Cruze is already an established model in Chevrolet's line up, but new offerings for 2017 have us on the edge of our seats. With a brand-new hatchback option and standard turbo engine, we're stoked to get behind the wheel of the refreshed Cruze.

3. The Camaro's 50th Anniversary

Excited Camaro 50

The 50th anniversary edition of the Chevy Camaro.

"Camaro wasn't built in a generation," says the venerable sports car's 50th anniversary site. And we couldn't agree more. This year, we'll be happy reflecting on 50 years of one of America's greatest muscle cars and hoping to get behind the wheel of a 50th Anniversary Edition Camaro.

4. Chevy Equinox & Traverse

Rounding out Chevrolet's crossover line, the Equinox and Traverse are new for 2017. With a focus on performance and comfort, the Equinox will have three turbo engine choices in addition to the segment's first turbo-diesel. The new Traverse will offer the best-in-class cargo room and third-row legroom for maximum comfort.

5. The Return of the Corvette Grand Sport

Excited grand sport

Available colors for the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport are Twilight Blue, Spice Red, and Jet Black Suede (shown).

Five Grand Sports were built in 1963. In 1996, 1,000 more were created to signify the end of the fourth-generation. After only a brief appearance in 2010, the Grand Sport has returned in grand fashion for the 2017 model year. Packing the legendary LT1 6.2L V8, the new Grand Sport is expected to go from 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds!

6. Chevy's First 9-Speed Automatic

The 2017 Chevy Malibu will have something no other Chevy models have had: a 9-speed automatic transmission. Called the Hydra-Matic 9T50, the new transmission will be paired with the 2.0L Turbo in the Malibu. The result will be improved efficiency, a refined performance, and seamless stopping/starting.

7. 2017 Chevy Bolt EV

Excited bolt ev

The 2017 Bolt EV can travel 238 miles on a single charge.

Of course we're excited about the 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year! The new Chevy Bolt EV will pack an EPA-estimated 238 miles of range thanks to a 240-volt charge unit. When plugged in, the Bolt EV can gain up to 90 miles of range in about 30 minutes of charge time. Paired with Michelin self-sealing tires and electronic precision shifting, we wouldn't mind a Bolt EV as our daily driver in 2017.

8. New Duramax Turbo-Diesel Engine

Excited silverado

The all-new Duramax 6.6L V8 Diesel will be offered on the 2017 Silverado HD.

The 2017 Silverado HD will receive a special treat: the redesigned 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel engine with an SAE-certified 445 hp. The new design offers a 19% increase in max torque, and a 38% decrease in engine idle noise. There's a slew of new features that come with the updated Duramax, and we're excited about them all.
